When we arrived to Betha de Gideon, the students treated us to a parade. Once again, the high school students joined the elementary kids in order to give us the send off of a lifetime. The band, consisting of drummers and Xylophones, played their hearts out for us, and students carried banners that said "Thank you, TGC Teachers!"
After the festivities, Rosalia's students gathered in her room for one last lesson from each of us. Most of us chose to present the Powerpoints that we had prepared of our home schools, cities and states. I, too, prepared a Powerpoint; unfortunately, I must have saved it to my hard drive instead of my flash drive. I had to think quickly, so I decided that since many of the kids in the class came from racially diverse roots, they might like to see my family. I showed them a PowerPoint of a photoshoot that Angela Shea, a professional photographer, took of my family. The students loved it--and I think they also seemed happy to know that my own children looked much like them--diverse.
Saying goodbye to these wonderful kids proved to be one of the most difficult tasks in my life, especially when they presented me with a poster for my classroom that read "Dear Students, Mr Henthorn is the best teacher ever." Apparently, they enjoyed my lesson on Puritanism in America far more than my American students.
